The Philharmonic is a fully professional, eighty-piece symphonic orchestra which performs a series of subscription concerts in the Wilkes-Barre and Scranton areas September through April. The Philharmonic is the third largest professional orchestra in the state.

One of a diminished number of adult concert bands in Pennsylvania and the nation, the Wyoming Valley Band is a wind ensemble of approximately forty professional musicians entirely from northeast Pennsylvania dedicated to the performance of significant music of a wide spectrum, including original works. The Wyoming Valley Band's full-year season includes ten to fifteen performances.

Founded in 1947, Northeastern Pennsylvania Choral Society Formally the Wyoming Valley Oratorio Society has kept alive the great tradition of choral music with full orchestra in the Wyoming Valley. The men and women who sing in the large volunteer chorus come from all walks of life and from every community in the area.

The Lyric Consort is an eight-voice, professional vocal ensemble dedicated to historically informed performance of the a cappella repertories of the 15th and 16th centuries. Formed in 1993, the ensemble has since offered annual concert s eries in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre and performed by invitation throughout the Wyoming Valley as well as in concert and radio/television broadcasts.

In addition, the Music Department of Wilkes-University sponsors and promotes the Jazz Ensemble and the Wilkes Conservatory. Ballet Northeast is a classical and modern ballet company that presents a variety of performance throughout the year. This not-for-profit corporation is committed to the professional development of local young dancers and is accredited by the Northeas t Regional Ballet Association.

Bravo Dance, the area's newest contemporary dance company, offers six performances a year at the Dorothy Dixon Darte Center. The repertory company features six professional dances. They currently offer lectures and demos at area schools and plan to o pen a school in September. Their first children's ballet was performed on April 30, 1996.

This company is composed of both amateur and professional dancers. It provides young dancers with an opportunity to perform side-by-side with professionals. The ballet group will be siting a conservatory for music, theatre, art and dance in the next five years. Currently they perform once or twice a year with a goal of four events annually.
