Wachovia Arena at Casey

Whether you like the excitement of AHL hockey, outstanding concerts, or family shows like Champions on Ice, you can find it all at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza, located in Greater Wilkes-Barre, PA. This first-class facility, located just off of Interstate 81 via exit 168, is the home of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins -- an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers of the Arena Football 2 League -- and is managed by SMG. The 240,000 square foot, 8500 permanent seat regional, multi-purpose arena and convention center was recently ranked 14th in gross ticket sales - nationally -- by Pollstar Magazine (the arena industry trade magazine) . Founded in February 1858, the Society maintains the collective memory of Luzerne County and its environs by recording and interpreting the history, traditions, events, people, and cultures which have directed and molded life within the region. Its collections include archaeology, archives, costumes, geology, Indian artifacts, industry, military, mineralogy, posters, and textiles.
Our rich mining heritage is traced through exhibits at the Anthracite Museum of Scranton, Eckley Miners Village, the Ashland Anthracite Museum and through the work of the Ashley Break Preservation Society.
The strong role of history in the culture of Luzerne County is illustrated in a number of tourist attractions.

The Wilkes-Barre Rock Climbing Gym on South Main St., is a brand new, two-story facility that opened in June of 2002. For serious climbers, the gym offers intense bouldering and lead climb activities. For the novice, certified instructors are on hand for a quick introduction to indoor climbing.

This effort utilizes inactive railroad tracks along the Susquehanna River and into the Pocono and Endless Mountains. The group will also be preserving and protecting natural resources, historical landmarks, and scenic beauty for the hikers, bikers, joggers, and cross-country sliers using the trails.

A coalition-based effort that includes five counties in eastern Pennsylvania that will be conserving the natural, historic, cultural, and recreational resources. It is a 182-mile stretch along the Delaware and Lehigh Canal and rail transportation system, linking Wilkes-Barre and Bristol, PA together.

This effort also involves the action of preserving railroad sites along the Susquehanna River from Duryea to Wilkes-Barre for public recreation. Trails will provide opportunities for walkers, bikers, horseback riding, environmental education, and physically challenged to have access to the Susquehanna River.
